Three Tips to Keep Your Alliance Home Comfortable During the Winter Months

November 24, 2015

The plummeting temperatures in Alliance aren’t heading anywhere, and while it’s not hard to daydream about the warmer temperatures, it’s critical to remember that you can remain just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a big role in this, which is why it’s so crucial to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to bring up the fact that there are only a couple things that will provide as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service is suggested to be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a frigid winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them warm the whole time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a handful of other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — a lot of energy companies will provide an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need improving. You could be surprised what areas are letting hot or cold air to sneak out.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door, doors offer the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you may still have air making its way inside. Check to see if your weatherstripping is all good or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be allowing cold air inside. If you uncover any concerns, weatherstripping is simple to switch out and can take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common places for air leaks can be your recessed lighting. Depending on the light’s age, they may be letting all the hot air in your home escape through your ceiling. Fixing this is as basic as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These couple of tips are just a starting point, but do recognize that there are other simple fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy jobs to do on the weekend.
